TECHNICAL GUIDE · REDUCER BUSHING SIZE SELECTION

How to Choose the Right Reducer Bushing?

Choosing a reducer bushing isn't just about one measurement: your socket's input hex size and the wrench-flat size of the nut you'll be tightening must be evaluated together. This guide includes the HB-DB series' complete table organized by input size and the model selection steps.

When Is It Needed?

When Does a Reducer Bushing Help You?

When the large socket you have doesn't match the nut size you needWhen you want to use one large socket across many sizes instead of buying a separate socket for each
In flange/pipe connection maintenance at power and petrochemical plantsWhen you need to switch quickly between different nut sizes
In wind turbine tower flange maintenanceWhen you need to work across varying sizes with a single socket set
In heavy machinery and construction equipment maintenanceWhen various nut sizes are being tightened on chassis and axle connections
In steel structure and bridge assemblyWhen flexible socket use is needed for large structural bolts

* Column B shows the maximum output size that can be produced for the given input size. Smaller intermediate sizes can be custom-ordered — for example, bushings reducing a 60 mm input to 55, 50, 46, or 41 mm output use the codes HB-DB-60-55, HB-DB-60-50, HB-DB-60-46, and HB-DB-60-41 respectively.

Selection Steps

Find the Right Model in 4 Steps

Determine your socket's input size

Identify the internal hex input size (mm) of the impact socket you're using — this determines the A (input) size of the reducer bushing you need.

Measure the nut's wrench flat

Measure the flat-to-flat width of the nut or bolt head you'll be tightening, in millimeters — this is your target output size.

Find the matching model in the table

Check the maximum output (B) value corresponding to your input size; the output size you need must be equal to or smaller than this value.

Request a custom size if needed

If the table doesn't have an exact intermediate size, order a custom size using the input-output code system (e.g., HB-DB-60-46).

// QUICK CHECKLIST

01Socket's input size (A) determined
02Nut's wrench flat (mm) measured
03Matching maximum output (B) value checked in the table
04If no standard size fits, custom code order confirmed

Why a Reducer Bushing?

One Socket, Multiple Sizes

Instead of buying a separate socket for every nut size, adapting the large socket you already have with a reducer bushing cuts both inventory load and field equipment weight. The HB-DB series is CNC-machined to precision from a special steel selected to withstand the demanding loads of pneumatic and impact torque applications. 25 standard input sizes from 36 mm to 155 mm are stocked and ready for production; custom intermediate sizes below the table's maximum output size can also be produced on request. A fixed 5 mm cap thickness across all models ensures consistent strength and a secure seat on the bushing's seating surface inside the socket. Standard sizes ship from stock; custom sizes reach the field with a short production lead time.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I correctly match the input (A) and output (B) size?
The internal hex input size of the impact socket you're using must match the reducer bushing's A (input) size. The wrench-flat size of the nut or bolt you'll tighten must match the bushing's B (output) size — check the maximum B value corresponding to your input size in the size table.
What if I can't find an exact matching intermediate size in the table?
Intermediate sizes below the table's maximum output size can be produced as a custom order — for example, bushings reducing a 60 mm input to 55, 50, 46, or 41 mm output are ordered with the codes HB-DB-60-55, HB-DB-60-50, HB-DB-60-46, and HB-DB-60-41.
Are a reducer bushing and an impact socket adapter the same product?
Yes. In the industry, the names reducer bushing, impact socket adapter, and reduction bushing are used interchangeably for this part; they all describe the same product that makes a large socket usable on a smaller nut size.
Why is the cap thickness (S) the same across all sizes?
The HB-DB series uses a fixed 5 mm cap thickness across all sizes; this ensures consistent strength and a secure seat on the bushing's seating surface inside the socket.
What material is the reducer bushing made from, and how is its torque resistance?
It's CNC-precision-machined from an impact-resistant special steel suited to high-torque applications.
